No, you don't. I assume your tech is talking about the ball joint being "tight", which is pressed into the control arm. Otherwise the control arm is just a piece of metal. There is an aftermarket version of the control arm/ball joint assembly you can get from http://www.thesaabsite.com for about 1/2 the price of the OEM one.
You may need to loosen the anti-roll bar from the stanchion arm on both sides to help get it out.
