It may not be something as complicated - I spent several months chasing down an occasional SID brakelight failure message.

First of all, have you had a friend press on the brake while you carefully look at all the bulbs in the back? Be sure to check the "third" brake light as one bulb burned out there can be hard to find.

Next, when the voltage starts to drop on a bulb as it is getting old you may get a warning - maybe up to 2-4 weeks before it completely fails. This wasted a lot of my time, but all it means is a bulb you can finally identify is going to finally burn out completly soon.

2) Most importantly, many, well I am not a mechanic, let's say "all" of the bulbs in the rear of the call can be installed and will fit with the pins in the sockets but only one way works. What I am trying to explain is, the bulb will go in, but only in one way will it actually work, and the only way to figure it out is to check against the burned out bulb you are removing, or another good bulb that you know still lights up. If you put a new bulb in incorrectly you will still continue to get the brakelight failure message.
