Saab don't have specs for the clutch winding resistance Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: No A/C - Thermostatic Switch, Martin B, Tue, 11 Nov 2003 01:39:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
They don't even acknowledge (in the workshop manual) that the thermostatic switch on top of compressor could be a problem.
Only in later bulletins do they talk about that switch failing.
The best way when suspecting the switch or clutch is to use a long wiretap. One that hooks around and pierce the wire on the clutch side of switch.
That way when the compressor fails you can check with a test light if you still have power there (switch good) and you can even apply extra power straight from battery to that wire tap to see if the clutch engage.
You see, even if you get the test light to illuminate it doesn't mean that you get enough umph (amp) to start the compressor clutch. You could have a drain somewhere.
That's why it is a good idea to jump extra power straight from battery to clutch.
