Give them hell about it. All of the rear main shaft seals from that era will all leak. And its insame to not replace when the trany is out.
A leak from there can be that or the trany or both.
Get a drop on you finger and smell it. Fuel smell or engine smell is engine oil. Rotten stinky sulfer is gear lube.
