Blue smoke at coldstart for about 20 seconds Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Sun, 16 Nov 2003 23:57:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello,
There's a lot of smoke coming out of my muffler when my engine (2.3 L) is cold. Only when the engine is cold the blue smoke appears. The smoke is thus al little blueish and is very intens for about 20 seconds.
Because of this smoke I went to my dealer and he diagnosed a leak in the headgasket and propably some leaking oil or valve seals. He also said that my balance chain and and distribution should be replaced. The car has done 190000km without any problems by now.
My brother in law is a very good mechanic but not specialized in Saab. He replaced my headgasket (is was not leaking he said), timing and balanceshaft chains, tensioners etc (all was well when he took it out) and all of the 16 oil/valveseals inside the engine. He cleaned the engine (there was just al little black sludge present near the distribution pan).
The engine now runs smoother because of the new balance and timing parts and the better oil (Castrol 10W40) I am now using.
Problem is that the blue smoke at a cold start is still there. All looks very good and clean inside the engine. So I don't think the problem is inside.
Does anyone have a clue what the cause of this can be? Maybe some seals on the backside of the enigine which also need to be replaced?
My brother in law said that the blue smoke doesn't smell like motoroil but more like brakingfluid.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Best regards,
Rob
