Its a great car. Im sad to say we were forced to go over to "the V word", but we really don't like SUVs, so a wagon is the most logical option.
I really wanted a 9-3 Wagon, but Saab has been way behind the power curve on getting one out on the streets. We looked at the 328 BMW wagon and the V40. The BMW is WAY overpriced for what it is, and Volvo was offering huge price breaks because the V40 is going away after this year. The 2004 1/2 S40 is coming out next year, and the 2005 V50 (V40's replacement) will follow in mid-2005, so they are wheeling-and-dealing on the V40s.
The car drives very nice. LPT engine produces a nice power curve and no turbo lag. Handling is great, and even better after I added the front strut brace from Volvo. The car is much roomier than it looks from the outside. Our only complaint is that there is no manual transmission available. However the 5-speed automatic performs well, and has sport/comfort modes.
Plus 4 years of all-inclusive service/maintenance from Volvo is helpful, but I have yet to determine if it will be more of a pain than its worth. I actually kind of like doing my own oil changes and tune ups, etc. Keeps me in touch with my man-side.
Nick.
