New Noise during start-up--alternator or water pum

I've got a 96 900s 2.3 and have been running Mobil 1 for about 11,000 miles with a few leaks and seeps that I had prior to the switch. I bought the car at 53,000 and currently have 70,000. The previous owner did scheduled oil changes and replaced the oil pan due to hitting a pot hole. I had a mechanic check the valve covers before purchasing the car and he stated they were clean. Anyways just recently, I switched from Mobil 1 10w-30 to 0w-40 and didn't really notice any changes. However about a week later during start-up my car is making a buzzing sound that last about ten minutes and seems to go away when the car is warm. During idle when I step on the gas the buzzing/whine/bearing noise gets louder. I believe it's either a bearing in the altenator or the water pump. The sound is difficult to locate and I may need to get under the car. My old car was an Audi, which lost two alternators and one water pump. The alternator would whine and whistle for weeks and the water pump seemed to growl. This however is a new noise not a rattle sound more like a bearing rubbing and increases during idle when I step on the gas. My real concern is if it's the balance chains it would be a constant noise and not disappear when the car is warm? Anyone out there have any ideas on the noise? Thanks
