Hey, I'm with you. I too have a 1996 900S 150k miles Auto NonTurbo. I too notice this steering wheel vibration, but only on the freeway, as you say at around 60 to 55 mph.
Just so you know, I have already replaced my own rear hydraulic motor mount, which once I got the old one out and on my bench it looked totally fine. However, I also changed my transmission mount at the same time and it was definitely SHOT, cracked in two pieces.
However, the vibration in my steering wheel under those conditions you mention is still there, I did these replacements to get rid of my motor shaking around especially when torqued.
I think our problem may have to do with steering bushings, but I'm not sure. I do think it's a common problem and I bet someone here already knows the solution...some of these guys have frequented the board for a long time and have seen it all...anyone?
