somehow, this is a major cost on a car that is not worth all that much. If the belt failed at 60K, it was probably not replaced at 35K (and this should have been free!), and do you know what other routine maintenance was not done by the previous owner? Any number of even repairs can start costing a lot of money, and if you repair the engine, then the value of the car to you is now approaching $0.
Try to find out from the dealer whether the belt was replaced at 35K by a dealer, if so, you have a better chance of arguing that Saab should pick up the whole tab. Belt replaced free under warranty at 35K, 65K, 95K regardless of age.
On the other hand, the car may run great for another 100K miles after this repair. Tough decision, good luck
