This is normal operation for the ABS. Dont hesitate to "stand" on the brakes during ABS operation, it works best that way...
The reason it pulsates is that it is very rapidly releasing the brakes (a very simple explaination). It is like "pumping" the brakes on an older car, but much much faster. It is disconcerting to some people when they first experience it, but is normal...
The only time you should worry is if the wheels are locking up and it doesn't pulsate, then you are in for some big $$$ repairs.
