why is the old material saab used smells so alluring?

NG cars have lost that smell. Smell plays a big part in psychology. The Swedes are not dumb. You can put your blindfolded head in every car and you'll instantly know which one is a SAAB. You would think GM designers would take such little overlooked attributes into consideration. I'm unsure of GMs influences in the interior design (I can only assume a big one) why would they want such a prestigious car to smell like every other cheap GM product. I grew up with around a GM dealer and the very smell of new (GM) cars is actually nauseating (not trying to be funny).
So what is it about the old material, and how can we get it back!
