Many do the fuel filter themselves. It would be unusual for the filter to cause a sudden problem like this. You can smell fuel at the tail pipe.
Check the plugs after attempting to start. Wait a few minutes for the DI do do its cleaning cycle. The plugs should be wet with fuel. You need to pull the plugs anyways to see what state they are in. If an off-brand is installed, often those will be blackened with soot and the spark tracks through that. If you started the vehicle when in storage from time to time, this can blacken the plugs too.
You DI will fail in the next year if not failed already. You can get a new one from eeuroparts.com for around $300, free shipping and no max for most destinations. Or try ebay where folks are getting new DI's for significantly less. So if you do not need the DI, you soon will.
Do you know someone else who has a red DI who can do a test swap. Do you have mice damage to wires or hoses? Also check to see whats in your air filter box.
If the voltage is marginal, the system is know to not work properly. Do you have access to a battery charger? I would discon the battery for a while and get things going with proper voltages later. Got radio theft code?
Checked the battery and its connectors? Check electrolyte levels. Do you have a volt meter?
Yes the fuel pump will turn on for about 1 second when you turn the key. It might not do that repeatedly.
Check the VAC line to the MAP sensor. It is the most critical of all. The MAP is bolted to the bottom of the RN strut tower brace, not far from the TB. Whatever the problem is, a fouled TB and IAC will make a bad situation worse. These are easy to clean.
