It seems as if the comments on the General board are not that helpful, yet. I am not wanting to be critical of their comments (helpful), but all I see is "9000 is roomier", etc. that is up for debate depending on what you want. While looking for our NG900, I mentioned the 9000 to my wife, and she says, "Oh, well, I guess it is a car". Not very excited. She/we prefer the smaller, slightly zippier body in downtown traffic and parallel parking (i am not saying the 9000 is some 76 lincoln town car, but it is, as they say "roomier"). We still have a 5 door hatchback that can hold a ton of stuff with the seats down, and, hey, MID BODY MUDFLAPS! It is quite safe in tests.

My point is I don't know about further issues between the models, and would wait for some more experienced owners to chime in. From what I know, NG900 means "doing the short belt mod", changing out the voltage regulator at 120K, and hoping the clutch doesn't give you many problems. 98 900 had the hydraulic clutch which everyone says is a great upgrade. 97 was the first year for larger / different brake pads (correct?). The 2.0T has been significantly more reliable (I am battling sludge on my 2.3 NA, but hopefully I am winning). My complaint against the 900SE is the ACC from what I read. Besides I don't think a computer can keep me as comfortable / worry free as 3 simple dials that I control myself. My 900S has the leather and sunroof upgrades. Dream car would be 900S from canada w/ the 2.0T (no S turbo in the US from what I hear).

Good luck with your search. From the sound of it, your wife still has to come around to Saab considering you have had 2 older ones (1987 9000T and 1989 900S) that have needed work, and she is skeptical that Saab and Reliable belong in the same sentence.
