bad wander in steering (long)

My 900 is showing its age, with a lot of little problems. I can live with them. However, in the past couple of weeks the front end of the car has become really loose. I find myself needing to correct often on the freeway (or even 40 mph secondary roads) to maintain straight-ahead travel. I didn't hit anything to make the car go out of alignment, the directional stability has just gone away. The car is a little scary to drive now.
The car is an early '95 3-dr, and I didn't upgrade the suspension setup to the later (mid '95+) style. About a year ago I had shocks and struts replaced, but kept the original bushings, which are now squeaky. I haven't ever replaced any suspension components or steering components, they've all worked well enough until now.
I was hoping to keep this car until around June (when I'll have enough saved up for a new one), without having to spend a lot of cas on it. However, I obviously need the car to be safe to drive.
Any suggestions on what possible solutions to look at would be appreciated.
