I know "getting the groceries". 1992 Geo Metro 1.0L 3 CYLINDER 6 valve 13" tires. Chatters over 55 mph. I could go on. I drove this for a while (inherited). Since gave it away to someone who needed some help. They have fun putting 6 full size adults in it and pretending to race type a agressive drivers off the stop lights. Some look at them in disgust, some look with embarssment. But some just can't handle that anyone can have fun in a car that I really would reserve the word "turd" for. Anyway...

Yes, 2.3 has sludge issues (if you use firestone 12.99 change coupons), but proper care has these things running very reliably. With your auto, you do see some limitations, but that is due to the tranny, not the engine. I would conjecture that even the 2.0T seems a bit weak at times with the auto (?) before that boost kicks in. Aside from the engine, handling is the same. You can't squeel the tires and turn heads, but it is a great handling car that is put together quite well and that shouldn't be discounted.
