I know your pain. Keep trying, I was able to do it. However, I have a 96 SETC so there may be some differences in the engine set-up. My recollection on reading posts here before I started was that there must be three or four difference configurations.
Dean's post was the best although other's were helpful. You can find his post (if you didn't know already) by typing drs(underscore)install and browsing through his threads. The good ones will be the oldest ones.
I think I ended up using a 1/2" drive 24mm socket with a 6" extension and a cheap beam torque wrench that I use as a breaker bar since it's about 2 feet long. During my struggles I broke the lead off the replacement sensor which turned out to be a blessing in disguise since it allowed me to get more engagement on the sucker. I got it from the bottom. One last thing, the old sensor used a different size socket than the new one that I purchased from eeuroparts.
Good luck!
Ian
