Using synthetic and taking into account your typical usage, I would be confident that 10k mile intervals with full synthetic oil (preferably one with some European manufacturer approvals) would present no problem.
On the other hand, you can continue using a non-synthetic API SL oil and possibly extent your intervals to 5k miles. For this I would switch to a more robust oil, such as Castrol GTX, Pennzoil PureBase or Motorcraft/Conoco. Then run it 5k miles and submit an oil sample for analysis. This way you can be sure that the change interval is OK. For details, see http://www.blackstone-labs.com.
Another tip is to use a xW-40 oil. If staying with non-synthetic, try to use a 10W-40 or 15W-40, unless you live in cold climate.
