My 900 has slowly been experiencing corrosion of the positive (+) battery cable. For the last year or so, at each oil change the shop has recommended replacing the battery cable, because it is so corroded that it is liable to break at its connection to the battery terminal.

I'm finally ready to address the problem. There are actually 2 cables connected to my (+) terminal, one of which seems to run to the fuse box right next to the battery, the other runs down the side of the engine, I'm assuming that goes to the starter.

Do I actually need to buy a new replacement battery cable from Saab, or could I just buy a new battery terminal at the auto parts store, and cut about an inch off of the existing corroded cable to connect the new terminal? It seems like there's enough free play to shorten the 2 wires by about an inch or two. Is there any reason why one of these ways is a better fix than the other?
