Success! But still a whirring sound...

Well I went out to Sears and bought a long 13mm socket wrench so I could get some leverage (the one I was using was short, so I had almost no leverage) and it finally came off! New pulley was identical to old pulley in performance save some rust and general wear, it did not spin for a longer time nor did it sound rough. I assume it was the original, so I replaced it anyway, just for good measure. Getting the belt back on required some tricky maneuvering but everything fit back together perfectly. I started it up smoothly, and suprisingly, as mentioned in a previous post, it seemed to fix an idle problem I'd been having. When returning to idle, the engine would often stumble (like when coming to a stop), but the short belt seems to have eliminated that. I still do have a whirring sound from the belt though, is this anything to be really concerned about? It started when I had a new alternator put in and varies with engine revs.
