Convertible Repair Help

I have a 1998 900 SE Convertible. I suspect I'll need a recommendation for a REPUTABLE mechanic that can fix a tonneau motor (preferably fix, or replace with rebuilt motor). So, if you have a recommendation, please send it my way.
But for those gear-heads out there, I suspect (hope?) this is something I can fix myself. The Tonneau motor is disengaged, and at the moment, the 5th bow wont latch to the tonneau. I was having another mechanic look at the convertible (before I found the service bulletin and realized I could have done this myself!). He says as he was putting down the top, it froze. So he pulled the emergency release and put everything back in place. But since then the 5th bow won't latch. After consulting the SB, I've checked the emergency release cable -- it's fine. The motor was fully disengaged. I put it back in, but it wont stay in all the way. And I still can't get the latches to work.
So: Is there something special I need to do to get the motor to be fully engaged? The emergency release bracket that holds it in seems to be as far over as possible. And as I said, the cable seems fine. But still, the gears are a good half-inch out of place.
Do I need to "reset" the motor somehow (I thought I read that somewhere, but can't find it now)
Any other advice?
thanks!!!
