To mark 20 years since Saab's first U.S. convertible — the 1986 Saab 900 convertible — the 9-3 convertible will be available this spring in a commemorative edition. Saab calls it the 9-3 Convertible 20 Years Edition; it's essentially a fully loaded 9-3 convertible painted Electric Blue Metallic. Production is limited to 300 units and prices start at $44,615 including destination.

Exterior
The Electric Blue Metallic exterior paint is exclusive to the 9-3 Convertible 20 Years Edition. Like the 9-3 Aero, the commemorative car has dual exhaust pipes, a rear spoiler and unique, five-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels. Low-profile P235/45R17 all-season tires are standard. The powered convertible top folds out of sight under a color-matched hard tonneau cover.

Interior
Inside, the commemorative trim includes blue accents and sport seats clad in parchment leather. Power front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard, as are several features that are optional in the regular 9-3 Aero convertible. Among them are a three-position memory feature for the driver's seat, one-touch up/down windows, a rear park assist feature and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

With the convertible top raised, the trunk offers 12.4 cubic feet of cargo room, but it shrinks to 8.3 cubic feet when the top is down.

Under the Hood
A turbocharged, 2.8-liter V-6 engine generates 250 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. Introduced for 2006, it's the more powerful engine of the two in the 9-3 lineup. Saab says it pulls the convertible from zero to 60 mph in 7 seconds. The V-6 teams with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with a manual-shift mode.

Safety
Standard safety features include antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, an electronic stability system, side-impact airbags, pop-up rear roll bars and active front head restraints.
