Tailgate (hatch) lock Posted by Mark [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have a 1997 900SE with central door locks. When the tailgate release switch is depressed (on the driver door) the motor in the tailgate releases the lock, however when the switch is no longer depressed the lock is re-engaged. There is no delay that allows you to get to the tailgate before the lock is again engaged. The drivers side door is always open when the switch is depressed and never closed during or after depressing the switch, so I don’t believe the problem is due to bounce. Another interesting note; when the remote is utilized to open the hatch the delay works fine. You have at least 2-3seconds before the re-latching occurs. I am currently looking through the schematics in the Haynes manual but have not checked any harness connectors at the control unit. A relay can be heard when the remote is used to open the tailgate. Sounds like its under the front seat. There is a black box where all the drivers seat motor cables are routed to. Does the box contain any circuitry for the tailgate lock? Thanks for any input
