I have been restoring / owning British cars for 20+ years, and have in that time always had to replace the mirror's due to the reflective area flaking off behind the glass.
I told me wife never to use the 'blue crap' on any mirrored surface, and come to find out she has been using it all along (sorry hunny) on one of our 900T convertibles. She loves to detail her own car, and I never drive it, so out of sight, out of mind! Just bought all the parts, and guess what I have to do this weekend!
So, point of this long boring story, the acid that's in the blue window cleaner does affect even the newer (***esp. heated mirrors***) mirror as much as the old Lucas units!
I have found that using any wax (the cheapest junk on the planet works great), on mirrors works great! I also use wax on all windows minus the windsheild for the obvious: wiper + wax + water = nasty streaking!
Hope this helps and happy cleaning all!
