I used to have a Black 900T that I was compulsive about
keeping as clean and shiny as possible. I swore I would
never get another black car.
I moved on to a silver 9K Aero. It is so easy, compared to a
black car, to keep looking nice.
I was looking for a car for my son to drive while not away at
school, and I stumbled on a '95 9K CS for a relatively good
price. Only problem, it was black. I told myself that I would
not become obsessive about another black car. I lied.
I started lurking on this BB (it's all your fault) and learned a whole lot about
restoring a cars' finish. Purchased a PC, an assortment of
of pads, some 3M products, some sand paper, touch-up paint, and some
microfiber.
I started out with the hood, touching-up the deep scratches and nicks.
I leveled the touch-up with 1000, 1500, and 2000 paper.
Lightly color-sanded the remaining deep defects.
I then used 3M rubbing compound to remove most of the
sanding marks. On to 3M machine polish, followed by
SMR. I finished off with Maguires wax. With the exception
of some small chips that I could not see before, the hood
looks better than new.
Now I read about how great Zaino polish (wax) is and decided
that I should use that.
Is Dawn enought to remove the existing wax prior to applying
Zaino? Or, should I use Prepsol or something.
