When touching up chips don't fill up the chip completely with paint. You only want enough paint to cover/colorize the primer. Fill in the rest of the chip with clear. I suppose clearcoat is best, but I go the easy route & use a clear "non-yellowing" nail polish. The rest of your car has a clear coat on it, if you want the repair to blend in, it needs the clear on it too so the depth will match.
