Just wanted to pass along some new experiences I've had with Meguiar's Scratch X. I used some a month or so ago on some fine scratches I had on the rear quarter panel and roof of my brand new Cosmic Blue 9-5 Aero, and was very impressed with the results. The scratches on the quarter panel, which the VOB (Rockville, MD) body shop said would need a complete refinishing to fix, were completely removed by the Scratch X. Not a trace, from any angle with any lighting that I've found yet. The roof scratches are almost gone and probably no longer noticeable to anyone but myself.
I also had a deeper scratch on the rear driver's side door, and somehow picked up several new long ones on the trunk lid. One of those was fairly deep and nasty, like the one on the door, and the rest were light but noticeable. Also found what I'd call a "medium" scratch on the rear passenger side C pillar.
Gave the car a cleaning on Saturday, and tried the Scratch X on all of the scratches. Must say I'm damned impressed. The C pillar scratch is gone, the lighter ones on the trunk are barely noticeable (gonna try the Scratch X again as it was getting dark on Saturday when I did them), and the deeper ones on the trunk and door are not as bad as they were before.
I guess the message is, if you come here looking for help or got a ridiculous price quote from a body shop, and are a bit overwhelmed by the talk of buffers, compounds, scratch removers, swirl removers, 7 step cleaning processes, clay bars, etc, go ahead and give the $7/tube Scratch X a try, it might be what you're looking for.
