Hi Rod M,
Drawing on my previous experience with body shops, I can truly say that "cheap is not necessarily better" when it comes to body shop work.
You can spot a good shop from a mile away. Make sure the place is spot clean, dust free, and well ventilated. Ask them to show you around and don't make frendship with whoever it is you're talking to (trust me here)
Try to be very objective and demand absolute quality. You don't need to "tell" them what/how to fix things, if you do then you know they're not up to the task and hence should be looking elsewhere. Some shops give quality assurance of their work, and that's a good sign too.
My choice would be to cut metal and weld new metal rather then sandblasting and filling. I believe alot of the high end shops prefer that option as well as it works better and leave their shops clean.
Good luck.
Pierre
