When I bought my wheels, the clear coat was cracked and peeled. I had one bent rim that I have redone at motomotion for $130.00. The rest are like your rims. I had a local machine shop turn the wheels just deep enough to remove the clearcoat. Mothers aluminum polish works great, but requires some time to get them really shiny. I never considered clear, just have to polish three of the four. Steve is right, once you have the wheels powdercoated (barring any curb rash) they will look new every cleaning.
I will eventually have the other three re-finished, but they were in pretty good shape, so I just keep them clean.
