OVERSPRAY.... clay it or buff it? Please help! (long)

Moved into a new housing subdivision. Note fine specks on windshield when driving into the sun. Won't come off with wiper fluid. Come to the conclusion it must be overspray from one of the new homes being painted. Overspray noted on body too looks and feels like fine dust but won't come off with washing (black 9-5) Varsol and elbow grease gets most of it off the windows. All over body as well. However I'm reluctant to use varsol on the body to remove it. Read on the board to clay it (never clayed before, worried I may do more damage than good), called a detailer he recommends buffing it ($200 on top of $100 for regular detailing). Any comments on what I should do? Car is 3.5 years old has some scratches that may benefit from buffing as well but I'm afraid buffing may cause more damage than good. I would clay but no experience with it and I don't have half a day to a whole day to clay and re-wax the car (which is what I imagine how long it will take), since with two young kids including a 2 month newborn wife is not going to let me spend a whole day claying and waxing. However would still go the clay route if it really is superior to buffing. Lastly the Griot's garage link states that it only takes a 1/2 hr to clay is that really true? Thanks in advance
