Clay bar, stronger polish Posted by Slaab [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Haze in paint, Matt Wilson, Sat, 25 Feb 2006 21:28:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Matt -
I would recommend rewashing the car, and then using a claybar kit to remove any contaminants left in the paint. Mothers', Clay magic, and Meguiar's all offer good kits, usually available at autoparts stores for around $12-$15. Just follow the directions on the box and use plenty of the supplied lube. The clay should glide easily across the paint - if it grabs, sticks, or skips, use more lube. Will take about an hour to do if you've never done it and could make a dramatic difference - especially during/after polishing.
Meguiar's makes a product called Color-X that works well with oxidized paint, look for it at autoparts stores. If that doesn't do it, try Klasse All In One and Klasse Sealant Glaze; Menzerna also makes terrific high end polishes and waxes. Klasse and Menzerna are tougher to find over the counter, but are sold on various sites on the net.
One other item of note - the pads you use on your orbital play a significant role in how effective the polishes will work. You're likely ok to use a polishing grade pad for this process. A finishing pad may not be aggressive enough regardless of the polish you're using. And a cutting pad really should only be used if you're trying to do some major scratch/swirl removal.
Hope this helps and best of luck.
