How to fix fine scratches in paint

I royally screwed up. My '99 9-5's silver paint/clearcoat was in great condition. I washed the car the other day and after doing the roof and hood I realized I was using a rag that was last used to wipe mortar from my bathroom floor tile project. The bits of mortar stuck to the rag left some noticeable scratches in the paint. Can't believe I did that, but now that it's done, any recommendations on how to try to fix this? Is rubbing compound still used by folks? Not sure what to try these days. Note, I do have an electric buffer. Thanks.
