But the results will be worth it.

I think auto wash will be fine but....dishwashing liquid will certainly remove any old wax that may be there. I would follow up the wash by removing any big tar or other types of stuff with rubbing alcohol before the clay bar.

Should be enough lube but you can always use clean soapy water as lube too. Don't skip the sides of the car with the clay...you'll be sorry you did. I can't imagine spending the time to wax a car without the clay bar anymore....can't believe I ever did. Started using one about 4 years ago after I bought an auto detailing book.

You may want to just take the products off by hand and skip the orbital especially with a dark color. I thought of getting an orbital a couple of weeks ago before I did all of this to my 2000 but after reading mixed reviews about the results with an orbital buffer on this board I thought better of it. Yes, taking it off by hand takes longer but....I think you'll find it to be more precise anyway. Decide for yourself though but read the posts about orbitals further down on this board.

The meguires 3 step system should provide you good/excellent results. I use Mothers 3 step and am very happy with it. Maybe throw on an extra coat of wax as an final step....at least on the hood and roof.

Other than that, sounds like a good plan. Don't forget your wheels though. The clay bar works on them too. If they are a little out of shape you may want to check into some PS21 gel wheel cleaner. It does a good job of removing the caked on stuff that gets on the insides of the wheels. Scrub the tires and put some Vinylex on them.

Finally, have fun....it's a labor of love.
