as long as you get good quality products power ratings really do not matter!! MANY manufacturers (sony explode for example) state 800watt amp however it is MAX power which it taken at a high percent of distortion. Stick with a good product & you will be fine :o)
Simply buying a 100w RMS speaker & matching it with a 100w RMS amp will not guarantee you will not blow your speaker. It doesn't matter if the amp is 10w or 10,000w, if you push the speaker beyond it's limit or push the amp beyond it's clean power rating, you will kill the speaker.
I use Adcom amps which are rated at 40 a channel or 75 a channel depending on which car I am in :o) Both are capable of below .5 ohm's & I am running them in multiple configurations. When I purchased my subs & component sets, I never payed attention to the power rating of the speakers. Simply listening to what the speakers are doing will make them last.
Finall, NO! If you have a 35w deck & add that to a 100w amp it does not add up. Unless the deck is running directly to speakers while the amp is going to another speaker. then it would be 100x? & 35x?. The amp is powered from RCA cables which have zero power :o)
hope it helps
