Really great graphics, childhood creatures with wistful expressions, bright colors but muddied up a bit, miniaturized world... Japanese manga meets the Bay Area. The two main artists who are internationally collected by contemporary art museums (NY, LA, SF, CHI, HST in USA) working in this style are Yoshitomo Nara, which your artist will totally know (and maybe somewhat identify with?), as well as the more explicit but equally collected Takashi Murakami. I'm a big fan of lots of contemporary art and your pieces, particularly the three you put in your first post as well as a number of the pieces on the artist's web site, are really appealing... the images look sentimental but somehow a little dangerous and lonely, too. I lived in Japan while studying at U MI from 1996 through 1999 and think your artist must have some true appreciation for that 'return to childhood' movement in 1990s Japanese art. Can we ask what you paid? Also, what are the paintings general dimensions? They seem quite small which seems appropriate for the subject matter.
