Scott and Chrystobal, of course the Sonett and the 9000 are Real Saabs. My apologies for the premature statement. My doubts about anything NG900 and on are strictly my personal opinion. Yet, what is a REAL SAAB anyway? The 3-cyl 2-stroke in the 93,95 & 96 was shared with German DKW.....that nice little V4 of later 96s came from German Ford...the first 99s employed a British Triumph engine, later 99s,900s,9000s still based on that original design. Why should we view the current Saabs any differently? Simple: borrowed platforms, not simply engines. Pretty fundamental, after all.

Big fish eat little fish. Saab was between a rock & a hard, uh, place, by late 80s...could not expand and grow and build new designs without outside funding. The board could let Saab's car business die (they make airplanes) with honor, or they could sell part of the business to raise kronor, yet yielding some degree of managing control. Yes, I agree with you Scott... another option to today's cars would be no Saabs at all. Also, lots of nice Swedes would have gone on the dole after the works closed. Not acceptable, obviously. So, I say...Long Live Saab...wherever their parts and designs come from!

For me, however, I will stick to my 900 menagerie. (Oh, and maybe a nice 9000 Aero, and a shiny black 9-5 wagon...and who knows what next?) Cars are THE BEST, aren't they?

Keep On Saabin'
