It was $15,150 total. I bought a 2002 in January 2003, which stickered for 19,660 (had every available option). I got the $3,000 off from Ford, and then bargained like a total hard ass. I was a car salesman in my previous life, which helped a great deal. I also really wasn't seriously going to get the car, I just wanted to test drive it and see how cheap I could get it.
We went back and forth, and I was going to leave. They asked what I wanted to pay. I said $15K. They said would I be willing to give them $1K right now if they could go to $15,3. I said split the diff to $15,150 and we have a deal and here is my credit card for the $1K. They did it, and I ended up with a new car.
It was sort of funny because I have never bought a new car before and wasn't really going to buy one. I had a lot of explaining to do when I got home, because my significant other did not even know I was at a car dealership looking around, much less buying a new car.
I got a little raped on my trade, though. 93 900SC 5 speed @ 103,000 miles, pristine condition in and out (new top, turbo front air dam, SPG rims, CD player and immaculate leather). They offered $1K, so I said I would just keep it. I had an appointment with mechanic for next morning, and he called at lunch to say car needed new trans, and some exhaust work, and some other crap which could total up to $3K. I called dealer and said that they had to put trade into deal. Picked up new car that evening.
Sometimes I kick myself and think I should have fixed Saab or bought mini S or even sprung for the 9-3SS, but then I remember that I got such a great deal on this car. Monthly payments are so low, and I think even if I totaled it today, I would come out ahead because the total value is more than what I paid. Miss that convertible now that the weather is nice, though.
