... the day, three or four years ago, when I went to buy my 92 9k - Cde -2.3i. I've visited a lot of websites ( among them, on a daily basis, this particular one ) and, according to my list of
facts that my car should respect, I ended among those brands to choose the future one I'll buy and drive : Saab, Volvo, Subaru, Honda, Lexus.
I'll find my car at a independant Saab mechanic specialized in 9000 and 900's. The price was not too high and the state was quite nice for a car of this age. I watched the price car fall
from 8.500 $ to 4.800 $ in about five months. It was a 2.3 gasoline, automatic. So, I perfectly knew that belgians were not very interested in that kind of car. Too powerfull, auto and not diesel ! Locals hate all that.
And the Saab lovers nearly all want Turbos and not injections.
Plus, the automobile market place was going thru a bad moment : january, february, march are well known here to be awfull months for salers.
So, when the price had falled to 4.800 $, I went to the dealer. And still hesitated !!
I had not really a lot of money to spend and really did want to make THE good choice.
But, looking at the car, I just saw a truck coming in the garage. On this one sat the wrecked body of a 9000, hitted by the face at 80 kms/hour ... the Saab mech was buying those for the pieces.
The guys were a bit laughing at me : d'you wanna buy this ? Very cheap, we make a special prize for you ... etc ... etc ...
But what I was looking was the interior. It was immaculate. Seating on the driver seat, excepting glass pieces on the seats and the floor and the airbag on the wheel, you could never say that the car went thru a frontal crash at 80 kms/hour. I tell you, the cabin was perfectly
okay and I eared that the driver was also perfectly ok and was actually looking for a 9.5.
And, my friends, that's exactly what decided me to open my wallet, reach my belgian francs, count the equivalent of 4.800 $, sign the sale contract, take the keys and become a proud Saab owner and a daily visitor of this website.
I appreciated this car before buying it. But to see the ability Saab have to really protect you from crashes, that is what transform my appreciation to a decision. And nothing else.
Driving it from years has transformed my appreciation into love. But, basically, a wrecked 9000 has guided me to the brand.
