The 185 hp Linear sedan was so discounted it was eating into 9-3 sales. However, there is no 9-3 wagon available yet, so they kept the entry level wagon.
The V-6 was forced on Saab because GM thought you needed at least six to compete in the luxury market (you do). However, the old Arc wasn't a strong seller, so dump the turbo six for a boosted up 4 that makes almost as much power as the old Viggen. It's cheaper to manufacture and will sell better than the turbo six. Win, win, win.
The only problem I see with the new lineup is the difference between the Aero (250hp) and Arc (220hp) is minimal. Unless the price difference between the two is significantly smaller than between the previous Linear and Aero, they won't sell many Aeros.
As for the 9-3's, in 03 they were reserving the Aero name for a future higher performance version featuring a twin turboed V-6. Since they are renaming the Vector to Aero, maybe it's an indication that that project is dead.
