I used to ride an old Raliegh that I bought when I was 13 (now 31) up until early last year. I found this gem (See pic below) on Ebay and I haven't touched the Raliegh since. The older bikes are nice, but I vote make it easier on yourself. You can get a great deal on Ebay on a used very nice lightweight bike - takes some time and research, but it paid off for me. I also mountain bike on a Cannondale Super V1000 I got in 1998. I will use that bike on my road routes to build strength.

The pic below is my every other day ride - On the weekends I will take it 40 miles when I am in shape. I have a trainer (about $200) that I also bought on Ebay that I use a night for a cardio workout.

I also swim for a solid low impact workout after I bike at night.

Other than that I am also an avid golfer and try to walk the course when I can. Big downhill skier when I can, but thats not good for your knees;)
