My problem is that I used to ride quite seriously in my school days. Every time I've tried to jump start back to riding, I get disheartened becuase I'm constantly getting passed (just like the old dorks with the expensive bikes I used to make fun of when I was younger and faster!)
Now, its not like I'm going to run out and buy a grand-tour-ready ride before I get some serious mileage in me (I plan on dusting off and using my trusty 'everyday' training bike, the only one left from my stable).
I just don't want to be the absolutely pathetic slow overweight guy who gets alternate sympathy and snickers. I plan on being the not so slow, but probably still a bit overweight guy before I get on the road.
ALso: Houston sucks for riding: flat, shoulderless terrain and incessant heat/humidity. I need to get my neck and butt used to riding before I get any Houston on me.
