Nothing wrong with Audi's 2.8 V6. You are perhaps thinking of the 2.7T twin-turbo, which in its early years had some teething problems.

I had an A4 and an A6, both with the 2.8, and it's a mighty fine engine. The torque pull in 2nd and 3rd was very enjoyable. However, now that I've crossed over to the turbo side, I have all the torque I need at all times.

My caution would be, engine swapping these days is much more complicated that just replacing one block with another. Almost every other support system on the car needs to be changed as well, and then there's the matter of trying to sell the car one day because the VIN is always going to be wrong.
