I thought I would post the solution I used to extract from the DVD, just for the record.
1) Used FlaskMPEG to extract audio info from the DVD as a .WAV file. FlaskMPEG is pretty good because it effectively eliminates the need to have separate apps for ripping the DVD and extracting the sound.
2) Coverted the .WAV files using an application called "Cool MP3 Wav Converter."
The results are okay, but not spectacular. It is astonishing how much fidelity I lost in the conversion. The sound quality is significantly lower, and there is even some static in various places, particularly around high frequencies. The losses result from the conversion from DVD to .WAV, not .WAV to MP3.
Thanks for the help with this one. Now I can listen to Zep live in my car! This will come in very handy when I make the trip from DC to Boston this Friday.
