at vwvortex.com. I'm not a big fan of making each new model longer/lower/wider like Detroit used to, but that seems to be the case with this new VW. The similar A3, however, will have nicer amenities and AWD, making it an appealing alternative to a RWD BMW.

If you want to get a sense of what a 1 series will probably be like, think about the late 318i Compact hatchback and mix in elements of the new Mini; add some Golf/GTI and stir. Also look at the Merc C Class hatchback to see how the Germs do small cars.
