Wireless Router drops speed from 100mbps to 10? Help

Hey guys,
My two college roommates and I down here in Savannah, GA just had Comcast cable high speed installed and we got a wireless router system so we could share the connection. The main high speed cable box is in the room above me, connected to the router. In that room, my roommate has 3 computers (he is a computer animator) hardwired from the router, mine is the only one on wirless right now. I just checked the connection when all 3 computers upstairs were inactive, offline, etc, they are getting 100mbps, I come downstairs, the signal reads 'very good' sometimes 'excellent' and I'm getting 11mbps. Does this sound right? Shouldn't I bet getting more than that? I know there would probably be some loss, but only getting 1/10 of it's potential is terrible. By the way, the system is LINKSYS and we got the Wireless-G Router, the best one they make, along with the wirless reciver for my computer too, all suggested by my Uncle (computer programmer).
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there any way to speed up the process without running a 30ft wire down the stairs and across the floor into my room?
Thanks!
Taylor

RIP Kyle & Tim
