help! mysterious problem

I just did a cross-country move form NY to Oregon in my 1988 Saab 900 Turbo. Packed to the brim with all my stuff and only 20 miles from my final destination, my car started surging badly on hills (losing power as though it wasn't getting enough gas), and then stalled completely. I let it sit for about 15 minutes before trying to start it again. (It acted like this once before - last spring during rainy days. After sitting awhile, though, it would start up again and drive well for a number of minutes. Finally I gave it a tune-up: new spark plugs, air filter, oil change, etc., and it ran great even in rain.) But this time the problem didn't go away after sitting. So it got towed to a mechanic - 3 times now! 2 of those times it's been to a Saab mechanic in my new Oregon town! STILL a problem exists. The fuel filter's been changed, the fuel pressure regulator is apparently working well, the air mass meter and NCT sensor have been changed, connections throughout the car's electrical system have been checked out and tightened and cleaned... Finally, I'm told that it has to be the computer (we've narrowed it down to the comp. by fixing everything else but). It IS running a little better with all the work so far, however the start-up is rough (very low idle) and it may stall a couple times before it's been driven a mile or so. Is this a computer problem or something else entirely? Please help - this problem is costing me close to 1,000 dollars already and it's still not fixed!
