Personally, I think you're nuts.
But...
My '87 Civic came with power steering. If your wife's is newer than that, I'm sure there were versions of the car with it. So it could be feasible.
You'd need a power steering pump, and you'd have to make sure that the engine has somewhere to attach it and somewhere to attach a belt to power it.
You'd need a whole bunch of stuff in the steering mechanism...I'd assume it's recirculating ball, but I'm not sure. Rotary valves, connectors, etc.
You'd need all the pressure hoses to run from the pump to the valves, and from there to the actual mechanism, whichever type it is.
You should get the guys from Monster Garage on the Discovery Channel to film your work. It will be very difficult, and the parts could be very expensive.
