If he hasn't broken the linkage, which he probably didn't, I might pull the gear lever back towards the ignition as I tried to turn the key. If you can get it near enough to where it should be in reverse. I would do this with the reverse trigger pulled up.
It's kinda' like the force required to undo a stuck steering column lock. It's probably needs to go the opposite direction of what it feels like.
It sounds like the lever is in the 4th or reverse gate, but not far enough to engage a gear as you say it's still in neutral and will roll.
There is no steering column lock on a 9-3.
Do you have a free towing deal? I'm sure a Saab service advisor or technician will succeed in unsticking it quickly. We're open here in San Diego 7-3 on Saturdays.
Failing that, a tow truck driver or just having some other car savvy person try it might be the ticket.
You'd have to be a real gorilla to break it, but I can't judge how strong you are online. That's why I recommend a tow truck driver.
