Subaru Forresters. I go on high alert whenever one is near. I think they come with clear window glass, turn signals and rear view mirrors, but you would never know it by the way they are driven.
They seem to be purchased by people that don't like cars or understand driving. Its as if the car confers total safety by virtue of its brand, and the driver figures he/she doesn't have to worry about petty matters like the laws of physics, let alone traffic. To me, a Forrester should be advertised "If you don't really know how to drive (or want to know), this is a safe car for you".
Just yesterday, a red Forrester stopped three times in half a mile for 10 seconds or more on a busy 45 mph main road. No signal, no pulling to the side or into a parking lot, no apparant reason to stop. Guy was amazed when everyone started blowing their horns, he seemed genuinely insulted or hurt that we did that.
A few weeks back another Subaru was sitting slightly ahead of me to my right at a light and just as the light changes, he turns left across my lane in order to make a U turn. I blow the horn and this blank look implies he is in denial that another car may even be on the planet. No recognition, no apology, nothing. Then he cuts off an oncoming car from the other direction, I hope that woke him up.
Last summer a Forrester enters a three lane expressway from the right just ahead of me, I checked my mirror and moved over to the center lane to let her in. She maintains her 45 mph ramp speed, AND WITH NO SIGNAL crosses right over the right hand lane and speeds up to maybe 50 in the center lane, right in front of me. Problem is I'm doing 65 and have closed the distance between us and the guys behind me are doing better than that in the right and left lanes. No where to go except into her trunk, so I have to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. She's annoyed when I hit the horn and flash the lights and she is making faces when I finally get a chance to pass her and avoid being a target from an inattentive driver behind me. Once I got by, she maintained 50 mph with a semi right on her tail.
What would Jesus drive? He must drive a Subaru Forrester because He seems to be protecting these people. Give them a wide berth.
