Some Still Digicam recommendations

I'm not too familiar with digicamcorders, but I have been following the development of digital photography for over 4 years now. It's come a looong way since the early days. Anyways,
Recently I shopped for my girlfriend. Around $200 price range, Canon A60 and A70 are sure bet. If you don't care too much about manual controls, a 3 Megapixel camera that produces THE best looking (sharpness and color accuracy) pictures is Panasonic LC33 with a Leica lens, though it's hard to associate this lens to the real Leica. Definately check it out.
Even if you are looking at higher price and MP range, I still think Canons are the more desirable ones for their use of CF and pretty much the best picture quality.
Don't know much about Pentax Optio S, but it doesn't seem to produce the picture quality achieved by many other cameras.
There are lots of products out there even in just one brand. That's why it's hard to pinpoint which one's the best. You should set very realistic requirement from the camera, otherwise it's very easy to discover new things and get enticed into higher oblivion.
