Last night I took the drive out and hooked it into my desktop pc with a special adapter from Fry's, but it still didn't show in the bios auto-detect. I took it out, put it in an anti-static bag, sealed it and popped it in the freezer. I took it out and tried it but it didn't work. That was when I posted my message here. I dropped it off at the gf's place last night and told her it was going to cost a lot to fix. She was bummed but accepted it.
This morning it works...she tried booting it as a last hope and it started right up. I told her not to use it and I immediately drove over there with my blank cd's and burned everything off the computer. I looked up the drive on the internet and it has a 3 year warranty, so I am going to try to have the mfg. RMA it and get a new drive.
This HP laptop has had so many problems. The cdrw/dvd drive only works sometimes so I was lucky it worked today when I needed it. The backlight turns off on the screen sometimes too and other times the machine randomly turns off. I'd beware of HP! Thanks for your help...I got really lucky this time....any suggestions for a more reliable laptop?
